Warriors Football began in 1952 as a club team playing out of East Harlem. our Founder and current Executive VP Jay “The Chief” Demers was a player on that team. When he moved to the Bronx, the Warriors came with him. He eventually started and coached the Warriors Football Club in various leagues very successfully.
In 1985, due to growing interest in the program, the Warriors Football Club grew into its own intramural league plus cheerleaders, totaling over 600 participants. Many former player and cheerleaders still come back to support the program in various ways.
In 2015, the league officially became the Warriors Football League, Inc and currently has approximately 225 youth and volunteer adult coaches in the program.
The Warriors Football League is an intramural league consisting of four Flag teams (5-7 yr old) , four Jr Peewee Tackle Teams (7-10 yr old), four Peewee Tackle teams (10-13 yr old) and a 14U Travel Team. Our games are all played at Pelham Bay park football field, usually on Saturdays. Our season begins in August with practices and a 8 or 9 game regular season plus playoffs (no playoffs in flag division) is played from September to mid-November.
Our 14U Travel Team plays its home games at Pelham Bay Park and travels throughout the Bronx and Westchester to play.
There are weight limits in our Jr Peewee and Peewee divisions. There is no weight limit for Flag football or for our 14U Travel Team.
