WARRIORS FOOTBALL LEAGUE IS SORRY TO ANNOUNCE THE PASSING OF ITS FORMER PRESIDENT
*The Warrior Football League is saddened to announce the passing of former League President and friend, Joe DeSimone. Joe began his tenure with the Warriors over 25 years ago, when his children entered the league. Both Joe and his wife, Cathy, volunteered with the Warriors, coaching Football and Cheerleading, respectfully. In those early years, Joe had the pleasure of coaching in three separate age divisions, all while watching his children grow up.
When his sons eventually moved on to high school football, Joe stayed with the Warriors, continuing to coach the game he loved. Some years later, Joe was given the opportunity to coach both JV Baseball and Football at Cardinal Spellman High School. He eventually took over the Varsity Football program and led Spellman to two A Division City Championships, before retiring from coaching in 2008.
In 2015, Joe returned to the Warriors, and served three more years as League President. During this time, he evolved the league with a transition to technology and connectivity, while maintaining Warrior traditions and values. Joe led the Warriors until 2018, during which he also initiated a free youth training clinic, open to all children of the community. Each Spring, more than 100 children participated in the free program that was dedicated to “taking children back outdoors for fitness and fun.”
In 2019, Joe was honored by the Morris Park Community Association for his lifelong commitment as a Bronxite, demonstrated through his level of involvement with Little League baseball and football in the Bronx.
Joe is survived by his wife Cathy, five children, three grandchildren, and a community that is deeply grateful for having him as a leading figure for so many years.
